Who inspired you to make music?

Josey: Originally my inspiration to make music was Asking Alexandria. I remember stumbling upon them when I was younger & I fell in love with the image & the sound they had. Since then my inspirations have evolved, but they were the first band that made me want to pursue music.

What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?

Josey: We almost always start with instrumentals first & then do vocals last. Typically Jacob & I will send files back & forth & slowly piece together a song until we think it’s perfect. Afterwards I’ll hit up Justin & discuss where I’d like the song to go lyrically & what kind of message we want the song to have. There’s 2 parts to our process.

What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?

Josey: My favorite song that Chasing Apparitions has ever released is “L’appel Du Vide”. The song is one of the heavier ones of the EP & the lyrics are everything I’ve ever wanted to convey in a song. If there’s one song off of the EP that I feel perfectly encapsulates the meaning of the overall EP, it’s “L’appel Du Vide”.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Josey: The best piece of advice I’ve received is to make sure you have everything, every little thing, ready prior to announcing a release. Get the music files back, the promos, any music videos, literally anything you can think of. Have it ready to go before you announce anything. Work in silence so when it’s time to release, you’re ready to go with nothing slowing you down.

If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)

Josey: This is a tough one, but Chocolate Chip cookies are my all-time favorite. Simple & sweet. The cookie dough is perfect too.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

Josey: The internet as a whole has made the music business so much better. We’re no longer limited by people we have in our immediate areas. Chasing Apparitions as an example. I live in Indiana, Jacob lives in Sweden, & Justin lives in Louisiana. Prior to the internet Chasing Apparitions would not have been possible.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Josey: I really wish there were more venues for metal/rock acts. It seems like almost every town has 2-3 venues that will play anything but metal. I just find it odd. At least the states that I’ve been to.

What is the most useless talent you have?

Josey: I can play the baritone. Like the brass instrument. I don’t think I’ll ever pick up a baritone again ever in my life, but hypothetically if it came down to playing one to stay alive I could do it.

When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?

Josey: The lyrics. How the music made them feel. What they connected to most. I wrote “Am I Worth Saving?” while I was in a really dark place because I don’t like to talk about my emotions. I tend to just close myself off. So if even one person listens to the lyrics & says “wow. This was written for me.” I’ll be happy.

What is your most recent project/upcoming project?

Josey: Currently Chasing Apparitions has a new single “L’appel Du Vide” coming out on 8.7.2020 with our sophomore EP, “Am I Worth Saving?” coming out shortly after. Make sure to follow us on all of our socials so you can stay up to date on everything we’re doing.
