Who inspired you to make music?
Too many to name but Avenged Sevenfold was definitely one of our first big influences in bands that we had before this one. In projects we had as teenagers we basically just wanted to sound like them but eventually we found our own sound.
What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?
Josh writes everything to start out by writing the instrumentals first based on a concept he has in his head. For instance, the main riff of Track 2 he came up with while looking at a painting. After the instrumentals are “complete” he sends them to us and we all write our own parts around it. Sometimes the songs change pretty drastically from the original version and sometimes they do not change much at all.
What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?
For more of a deep track I would vote for So Below because of all the wacky elements in it and for the outro which is personally one of my favorite parts on our EP. Overall, Wick is probably our ‘best’ song since its easy listening and also slaps but that can be up for debate.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Don’t try to fit in with any sort of genre or be too cliche. Make the music you want to make. Authenticity is important.
If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)
This is definitely the most important question. I would have to say sugar cookie or oatmeal raisin which are my two favorites. I am aware that oatmeal raisin may create some heated debates but that is okay.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I think it has been a positive and a negative for the industry. On one hand, it is definitely beneficial since it is easier than ever to release music and promote it to people all around the world. Music streaming however is harmful for artists trying to make a living.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I wish the music platforms tried harder to promote underground music. Seems like generally mainstream music is pushed a little too much which I understand but there’s a lot of incredible artists that could use more exposure. A lot of the best music is not being listened to enough.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I can make my stomach growl on command. Josh hates this talent.
When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?
I want people to listen to our songs enough to find all the subtle details in each of them. There are parts of some songs that I still discover when I listen to them.
What is your most recent project/upcoming project?
Our most recent release is a remix of our song “Wick” by producer Son of Michel. It goes hard and he absolutely crushed it. Check it out and some of his other songs. You’ll want to be there before he blows up.
For the future, we are currently in the process of recording our debut full length album which is coming along nicely. Nothing is set in stone for when anything is released but hopefully in the coming months we will have a single out. Stay tuned.
