Who inspired you to make music?
My uncle was my biggest influence in music. I used to go to record shops with him as a kid. He used to make me tapes of all different music, The Clash, Curtis Mayfield, The Damned, Rage Against The Machine, Booker T & The MG’s. All sorts really.
What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?
I usually start with by noodling on an acoustic guitar. I use a lot of weird/open tunings & just jam sh– out. Then I’ll put random words together to decide on a melody & it all falls from there really. Most of what I write, I have no idea what I’m writing about until I read it back & go “ah that’s clearly about…..” I can’t sit down & force myself to write about anything in particular. Nine out of ten times I just write & see what comes. A lot of them a made up stories, some about love, anger, whatever comes to fruition.
What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?
Me personally (Azza), I think Carryin’ On (Rockin’ & Rollin’) is the best track we’ve released. I love the vibe. The feel. It makes you wanna dance & move your feet. If you asked the others, they’d all say Before I Leave.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Don’t practice til you get it right, practice til you can’t get it wrong. That is by far the best but if advice anyone has ever given me, musically.
If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)
A Jammy Dodger. Old but gold.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
You know, I’m not sure. I mean you can get your music to a wider audience, but everybody is doing it. Without sounding all cliched & sh– I’d say the art of the songwriter is a dying breed. People don’t write albums now, it’s all singles & I think a lot of that is down to the internet.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I’d like it to go back to like 70’s/80’s y’know, when you had proper f–ing rockstars & people would wait til they played in their city/country to watch em.
What is the most useless talent you have?
I can do an ‘around the world’ with a football. Never got me anywhere in life.
When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?
I’d like them to look back & it maybe open their eyes to a different way of thinking. Or how it helped them get through good times, difficult times, indifferent times. Or, y’know, that it made them dance.
What is your most recent project/upcoming project?
We have a single out currently, ‘Before I Leave’. Which is available on all good streaming/download sites etc. We’ll have another single out soon. Then we’re gonna get back to the studio.
