Arya w/ Simone Succi [Musician Interview]

Posted by

Who inspired you to make music?

Personally I would say it was Luca himself, I didn’t really need inspiration, I was just out of music school and when he came to me asking if I could learn to play his album live with a band I knew I found a way to put my ideas at work for something interesting.

What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?

We start with instruments, it is usually Luca bringing up most of the ideas, sometimes me, they come from recent music listening and past tracks, we find a way to complement guitars and put together the rest of the band to finalize them, get the concept right and write the lyrics.

What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?

I think our current best is “Flares”, from recording to mastering it always sounded tight clean throughout, we put little work on it compared to most of our repertoire, it’s one of our fast paced songs that are also very good to play live.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

That we are going to die anyways and should always try to give our best shot lest we fade in our regret. I don’t know who told us so, but I think we’ve learnt much more from the advice we haven’t followed, for example those who told us to write Italian lyrics to remain loyal to our roots, or those who told us to hire a producer and make more pop-oriented music that probably wouldn’t have attracted much attention anyway.

If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)

I would be some cookie with chocolate dough and corn flakes, dark and crunchy like our mixes.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I feel independent music productions have earned their rightful place, somewhat, and being able to sell and/or promote your music worldwide is priceless considering most of an artist’s potential revenue comes from live performances, even to the face of piracy.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Not sure, our fraction of market evolved for the better during the last couple of years, yet I am not very fond of digital amplifiers and effects which are widely used in metal, nor the excessive compression I find in a lot of releases.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I am very skilled at cleaning with tremendously little willpower to commit to it.

When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?

That we tried to create something new, that we always were sincere despite the setbacks and that our work came from our hands only.

What is your most recent project/upcoming project?

The latest project is our new album For Ever, which has been released on October 20.
