Who inspired you to make music?
What is your creative process like? Do you start with lyrics? Instruments? Concept?
We usually start with the music. I’ll have some youtube videos streaming in the background while jam with my guitar. I do that until an idea comes up and then focus on what I can do to make the better ideas into songs.
What do you feel is the best song you have released/written and why?
“Survive” from “Screaming In Silence” is still my favorite track we’ve written. I’ve always loved the 10+ minutes songs and felt like I was ready to write one myself. It was a huge undertaking for me and I really do feel like I nailed what I was going for. There are a few little things I would maybe change in retrospect, but overall it’s our most epic, affecting and memorable song. For our “best” song, I think it’s “Defying Gravity” from “Color of Our Fears”. There isn’t a single thing I would change about that song, it’s as perfect a song as I can write.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
“Don’t ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone for any reason ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who, or who you are with, or where you are going, or where you’ve been… ever, for any reason whatsoever… “ -Michael Scott
If you could be any kind of cookie, what would it be and why? (Most important question)
Saltine cracker! I’m a pretty simple person and I can get pretty salty 🙂
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
It makes it easier to record and release music to the world which also means that making yourself stand out is increasingly difficult.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I wish that the playing field was a bit more fair. Having money and connections will almost always trump the music itself which is sad. I’ve seen too many good bands calling it quits cause they simply didn’t have the means to promote themselves.
What is the most useless talent you have?
Burping on command. Never ever found a use for that that’s for sure.
When you’re done with music, what do you want people to think when they talk about you and your work?
I don’t plan on stopping music anytime soon haha. Seriously though, I hope people felt the level of love and care that went into writing these songs. If I was in this for the money I would’ve quit a long time ago.
What is your most recent project/upcoming project?
We released “Color of Our Fears: Rediscovered” in 2020 and are now writing a lot of new material for a new project. It’s going great so far and it’s a tiny bit more intense music overall. We also explore new aspects of our sound due to having a female vocalist now and a 3-guitarist lineup. It’s going to be awesome!
